I could go on and on about all the sweet things that we love about Makenzie. She brings such light to our life, and often a good laugh. One of her biggest desires is to do everything that her older siblings can do, and she has to come up with creative strategies to get the job done. She is full of sass and has a very independent spirit. I am constantly having to come up with new ideas to get her to hold my hand, or follow me because she is our youngest 'big sibling' and sometimes it feels like we really have two babies.
Makenzie was SO excited to turn two. for about 3 months before her birthday, she refused to say that she was one, if you asked her how old she was, she would reply 'almost two'. The best thing about her birthday for me was when I woke her up from nap, and I said 'Kenzie! You're two!' She said, with all the confidence in the world, 'No Mommy, me almost three!' She knows more than I do in most cases :).
Kenzie is like a light switch. When she is on, she is full of fun, energy, smiles, jokes, and always ready to try something new. Most of the time she hits that off switch at bedtime and naptime, but occasionally you get 'terrible two' Makenzie, who can be stubborn, grumpy, and loves nothing more than to say 'no' and walk away. I love 'most' every minute with this little redhead, and can't wait to see all of the wonderful things that 2 will bring.
Couldn't help but capture this sweet moment with Grandma. I am so happy every time we have grandparents come visit, the kids talk about all the fun things they do and the things they love about Grandma and Grandpa all the time. I love to see their relationships develop in the same way that I had great relationships with my grandparents and cousins that I didn't necessarily live close to.
Hunter rarely does anything without his tongue out :) It's his trademark, and we have given up on saying it's part of teething, it's just him.
Whenever we asked Makenzie what she wanted to do for her birthday, or what presents she would like, she only mentioned two things. A dog cake and Anna (from Frozen). We tried to expand this to other things she loves, but she ended up with a years supply of Anna shirts anyway :). She might be figuring out patience with blowing out candles, but we got it under control.
One of the Johnson family traditions that we have continued is letting the birthday kid cut their own piece of cake :) Makenzie was all about this job, and wielded the knife with nothing short of an expert's confidence. Dad might have been a little less sure of her skills :)
I loved this series of Makenzie and Olivia. These girls love each other so much :)
She got slightly aggressive while unwrapping her gifts. Typical Kenzie style here.
The next day we went out for dinner, and Hunter got to try his first french fry! He loved it, and is totally ready for more solid foods.
Our crazy crowd, minus Hunter in the carrier and me. We had a great dinner at SouthFork, which is definitely one of our favorite Pullman eats.
Here are some nice pictures that I think Carter took. Usually he is all about his toys and the weather when he takes pictures, but the picture of each of the other kids narrows my choices down this time :).
