Later that afternoon, I saw Hunter sleeping like this, and had to capture it. His sippy cup is standing on his stomach, and he's totally out. 4 kids in and I'm still surprised at how they sleep sometimes.
Getting ready for school in the summer means going through last year's writing one more time. I have so many favorites from Olivia's Kindergarten year, but here is one of them. 'I want baby chicks. But my mom will not let me have one. A rabbit is cool too. They have two big long ears.'
Hunter's newest obsession (taking the lids off markers) has made for some fun activities :). Makenzie and I like to be a team to locate the missing lids (in the right colors) and count how many we can fix before he gets through the entire can of markers. He's getting faster though! I'm counting it a win for fine motor skills :)
Late August was exciting because we got our floors redone in the main floor! One of the biggest challenges, however, was completely clearing out our entire living room, dining room, and kitchen. We decided to make use of the big addition and moved the fridge and dining room table into the family room for the week. This meant that we needed to organize and put some toys on vacation for a while, which made for a 'fun' afternoon :).
After we finished organizing, we got to go see our teachers for next years! O was excited to be with her good friend Piper in Mrs. Zylstra's class, and Carter and I were both excited that he had Mrs. Kiblen. He declined the picture, but was equally excited by having a couple kids that he knew in his class. I was mostly excited to be staying the same house, not moving our lives, our home, and finding an entirely new school this year. We really love Pullman, and are excited to be staying here.
After checking out our teachers, we tried out the newest piece of playground equipment and practiced our bike skills at the Elementary school track. Makenzie even tried out the big girl swing for the first time by herself! She's excited to be the big kid at home when Carter goes off to school full time, but is proving a little too anxious to be independent in every aspect of her life :).
That evening we officially started the new floor project. We did the tear-out and prep ourselves, and had an installer come to put the actual flooring in. It was definitely the right move for us, as home projects always seem to take 10 times longer than we plan.
On the day of the first Beaver game, we were all ready for some football. Hunter wasn't quite ready for pictures, though, so we have pictures of just the oldest three :).
Here was our family room setup for the week. You can see the dining table right under the TV (which was SO exciting for the kids, who were anxious to watch Planet Earth while they ate dinner most nights), and the fridge and craft cupboards on the right hand side. It was tight but we made it work, and the kids and Alex were really patient with the easy meals and need for picking up right away that week.
A couple times each year we have a power washing day, where we bring out everything that's plastic or needs washed and deep clean it all at once.
This guy. The one who wears gray on gray on gray. The one with a few extra hours of beard. The one wielding his power washer with a sultry look on his face. This guy is all mine :).
Every time these kids help us wash the car, Dad decides that it might be easier to do by himself, but it's way cuter with all these helpers!
And then, as we were finishing up, we became the neighbors who have a kid peeing in a chair in our driveway. A status I wasn't sure we would ever achieve.
Sometimes you just barely catch your baby as he is running (one shoe on, one off) around the kitchen eating his pepper. He wouldn't stop running, so this is the best shot I got.
I love this picture as a pretty good representation of our life right now. At least one is crying, I can't keep them still for anything, and we are just feeling a little crazy. But we have a lot of fun, and the one that's crying never cries for long before they are back at the craziness.
I couldn't help but take pictures of this sweet little boy that snuck into the Legos and was trying his hardest to show me that he's old enough to play with them :) His older brother, however, took his Legos onto the couch just for safety's sake. Hunter doesn't tend to put Legos in his mouth anymore, but he has been known to see how fast he can destroy any and everything the older kids make.
We needed a rug for under the piano once we got the floors finished, and Hunter fell in love with this one :) He cuddled with it all through grocery shopping, which made 4 kids in Walmart on a Friday afternoon almost bearable :).
These areas where we replaced linoleum with LVP are still my favorite. The floors originally went from linoleum to carpet to wood floors, and we have them all the same, with a rug in the living room. Definitely more my style, and I'm getting used to sweeping twice the area every day. Maybe a swiffer is in our future :).
This was our last 'sort of' dinner, but it pretty much looked like this all week. Something frozen, but a veggie or two to make it feel like a real meal. I am so happy to have my kitchen back now, but the kids loved our week of convenience food.
This was our picture from Alex on opening weekend of ASU football. They had 5 home games in a row all through September, so this photo feels a little ominous to me, but I was really excited for Beaver football to come back, so we are finding a way to make it through Alex's busy season.
Kid selfies (always about 100 at a time) give a good glimpse into our life :). Carter took this, then I took the next one of Olivia trying anything it took to get the perfect lighting for hers :) She took so many pictures while Carter dragged her all around the floor, but they were all too blurry to make anything out.
When the floors were done, Carter and Alex got to work on the new baseboards. Carter is so cute every time Alex is working on anything, he insists on getting out his tool box of play tools to help. He would actually rather use his tools than his dad's, and the two of them make a great team.
The kids really enjoyed their naptime when Alex and I were working inside. They made the entire backyard disaster into a super fun playground, with labels and instructions for each obstacle :). I really want to finish and have a yard that I can relax in, but these kids would probably rather keep the dirt and tools and broken toys out there forever.
I got a little ahead of myself, but the next post will have some of these early September days also as we got ready for school to start.
