Back to School!

Back to school lasted about 10 days for us as summer was ending. First up was 'Meet the Teacher' Day for Kindergarteners. Carter was pretty excited that he already knew his teacher, and equally excited that this night was all about him (the ice cream social part of the day didn't hurt either :))

The next day was Olivia's official last day of summer (she started school a few days before Carter) so we celebrated with the outing that the kids had been reading for all summer. They earned money to spend at the candy store, and reading each night earned them each a book from the used bookstore that we hadn't visited yet. We met Alex downtown, spent a long while picking out books, then had lunch at Rico's Pub. We read online that it was a family friendly lunch place, and it totally was, but the bar smell remained during daytime hours, so we probably won't go back. The kids had fun checking out the gargoyles and other creepy decorations, and I only slightly gagged while taking them to the bathroom :).

Makenzie enjoyed her new book the most :)

Here they are showing off their bags of candy that they bought themselves :)

Later that night was Olivia's 'Meet the Teacher' night. I had all the kids with for this one, since it wasn't her first time at the rodeo.

The next morning was the official start of school! We lined up all the kids on our stairs and tried to get everyone looking somewhere close to the camera :). The second picture is what most of our pictures look like...

And after I get the picture I need, she gets to pick how she poses...

These pictures just make me realize how old she's getting. She declined me walking her in to her classroom, and was off for her first day without another thought.

Later that morning, Carter got to go in for his 1-on-1 meeting with Mrs. Kiblen. I don't know why, but these desks and lockers and other parts of the school just make him look tiny to me. He was totally ready to go, and quite disappointed that I wouldn't be leaving him there as well.

After Labor Day he got his official first day of Kinder. It was the smokiest day of the fall (we had smoke hanging out for a couple weeks due to some nearby wildfires and bad wind patterns) so my pictures are a little wonky, but his enthusiasm is contagious.

His pose...

I should be able to pick just one, but I can't. This handsome kid and his eyes...it kills me.

Carter with his wonderful teacher, Mrs. Kiblen. She is so attentive to his individual personality, it's a great fit for his first teacher.

Immediately after we dropped him off, Makenzie wanted to make him a card because 'I misses Carter'. She drew a little picture of him and her together, which were some of her first ever people. She hung it on the door for when he got home, and proceeded to be my literal sidekick the entire day. It actually took her about two weeks to be able to play without me, it's pretty obvious that she loves hanging out with her big siblings.

And their official school pictures to wrap it up :) Both kids are loving school this year, especially recess and their new friends.
